Lightening And Earthing Protection
Lightning Protection
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF A LIGHTNING PROTECTION SYSTEM?
The function of an external lightning protection system is to intercept, conduct and disperse a lightning strike safely to earth. Without such a system a building's structure, electronic systems and the people working around or within it are all at risk.
WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF LIGHTNING PROTECTION SYSTEMS?
The 3 types of lightning protection system
-
The lightning rod (simple rod or with triggering system)
-
The lightning rod with taut wires.
-
The lightning conductor with meshed cage (Faraday cage)
What are the four elements in a lightning protection system?
A lightning protection system consists of the following five parts: air terminals (lightning rods), conductors, ground connections (electrodes), bonding, and lightning arrestors.
How does a lightning protection system work?
A lightning rod and its associated grounding conductors provide protection because they divert the current from non-conducting parts of the structure, allowing it to follow the path of least resistance and pass harmlessly through the rod and its cables.
Earthing System
WHAT IS EARTHING SYSTEM USED FOR?
Earthing systems, or grounding systems, are used to connect specific parts of a power system to the earth or ground. These systems are used to protect personnel and electrical systems from shock or damage by providing a direct path for electric currents to flow to the earth.
TYPES OF EARTHING IN INDIA:
Electrical grounding, also known as earthing, is done in several ways like housing, wiring, electrical device, and more. The different types of electrical earthing systems in India are:
